Volunteer Spotlight: Northwest High School

For the month of November, we are proud to feature our club leaders Gurnoor Gill and Grace Patterson of Northwest High School in Germantown, MD!

Kits to Heart leaders Grace and Gurnoor at Northwest High School in Germantown, MD.

Kits to Heart: What inspired you to start a chapter at your school?
Gurnoor and Grace: We felt like the organization’s goals and motives aligned well with our values. We were, and still are, very excited to be able to spread the message Kits to Heart has, and it was especially inspiring to involve so many students within our school community in helping a cause and bringing happiness to people.

KTH: What is the most rewarding part of being a leader for your Kits to Heart chapter?
G&G: Being able to create experiences for other people, and grow Kits to Heart. Having the ability to help other people and help students in our community have an environment to be themselves and make other people smile is so rewarding to look at, and we are both so thankful that we are able to do so. Being able to bring together groups of people and work for a cause has been extremely rewarding.

KTH: What’s your favorite project that you’ve done for Kits to Heart?
G&G: The letter activity. It was so exciting to see so many of our peers come together and create something special for someone else. We can’t wait to do more.

KTH: What’s a common characteristic that you see among your fellow volunteers?
G&G: Their passion for helping people and their openness. They are so enthusiastic to help people, and they make it a very warm, welcoming environment.

KTH: What have you learned during your time working with Kits to Heart?
G&G: There are so many different ways to bring a smile to people’s faces. We are so thankful that we have the opportunity to let ourselves grow and work with different items to create cool projects.
