In this six-week summer session, facilitated by art therapist Luisa Mariño, participants will be invited to take part in an art therapy open studio support group for patients with cancer. Each week, participants will be guided to create a cumulative painting piece in a supportive environment, using acrylics on canvas.

Week-by-Week Overview: Each workshop will be structured as follows: opening ritual, art-making, discussion, closing ritual.

Open Studio Week 1
Materials: Acrylics, canvas, brush, paint palette, cup (for water), towel
Group name introductions, brief review of consent, and space to discuss the group’s expectations. Discussion around what an “Open Studio” is and what to expect. Participants will be invited to explore the art materials and start their cumulative painting. Time for discussion. Closing.

Open Studio Week 2
Materials: Acrylics, canvas, brush, paint palette, cup (for water), towel
Group check-in. Participants will be invited to continue their cumulative painting. Time for discussion. Closing.

Open Studio Week 3
Materials: Acrylics, canvas, brush, paint palette, cup (for water), towel
Group check-in. Participants will be invited to continue their cumulative painting. Time for discussion. Closing.

Open Studio Week 4
Materials: Acrylics, canvas, brush, paint palette, cup (for water), towel
Group check-in. Participants will be invited to continue their cumulative painting. Time for observation and progress of the art, as well as discussion of process. Closing.

Open Studio Week 5
Materials: Acrylics, canvas, brush, paint palette, cup (for water), towel
Group check-in. Participants will be invited to continue their cumulative painting. Time for discussion. Closing.

Open Studio Week 6
Materials: Acrylics, canvas, brush, paint palette, cup (for water), towel
Group check-in. Participants will be invited to continue their cumulative painting. Time for observation and sharing of the art, as well as discussion of process. Time for closing ritual.
