Kits to Heart Club Guide

As the leaders of your school’s Kits to Heart club, you have the wonderful opportunity to guide your members in purposeful service to support the cancer community. Especially given that club leaders may change over the years, this guide is intended to serve as a resource with tips and guidance on how to run and participate in your school's KTH club.

Social Media and Outreach

We encourage you to consistently update the Instagram page for your school’s Kits to Heart club. Please consider creating one if one does not exist already, or if you don't have access to an old club account.

Your account can be used for posting pictures/videos, sharing meeting dates and fundraisers, and highlighting the work that your club has done. This is a fantastic way to involve your members and the school community while supporting and raising awareness for our mission.

Please remember to tag our main Instagram account @kitstoheart when posting content, so we can help repost! You may also refer to other club accounts for inspiration and ideas, such as @arundelkitstoheart, @kitstoheart.svhs, @kitstoheartwheaton, and @ohskitstoheart!

Please invite your club members to follow our main Instagram account @kitstoheart! Any support will mean so much to help raise awareness for our cause. We’re also on Facebook and LinkedIn.

How to Request Student Service Hours

Service hours for club members are rewarded through the same process as for individuals. Activities do not need to be completed in one sitting or meeting, so encourage members to work on any open opportunities after school and then submit either with the club or directly to us. If you choose to submit the items all at once as a club, please use this group submission template.

Please reference the directions provided on our volunteer page and volunteer FAQs. For any further questions, please email us at volunteer@kitstoheart.org.

You may sign up for our in-person kit assembly sessions hosted on weekends from 9 to 11 AM in Clarksville, MD. Spots are VERY limited due to our space.

NOTE: When working on any items for our care kits, please consider the importance of quality over quantity. We totally understand that everyone’s time is limited, but we do ask that volunteers commit to the spirit of service by putting care and effort into each project. The goal of our service opportunities isn’t just to earn hours, but to create something meaningful for cancer patients going through a tough time.

If you’re mainly looking for quick service hour opportunities, our projects may not be the best fit, since we really value quality over speed. That said, we’re always here to support volunteers who are genuinely excited to help others.

How to Submit Items

Due to storage and capacity constraints, we are not able to accommodate additional drop-off locations at this time. If our drop-off location in Clarksville is too far for you, please simply mail in your items to the same address. This has worked for many volunteers from around the world!

Club Support and Planning

If you need help deciding which service projects to work on, how to host a fundraiser, etc., please feel free to contact us at volunteer@kitstoheart.org.

If you haven’t yet, please consider how to organize and communicate with members—some options that other clubs use include Remind, GroupMe, Google Classroom, Instagram, and email.

You're welcome to email us your club updates every once in a while to keep us posted on your club activities. Photos of your club working on activities will be perfect!

We’re looking forward to seeing all your efforts flourish and help support our mission! Good luck—we believe in you!
