How to Use Your Kit

Hi friend,

As a cancer survivor, I wanted to share more about why you're receiving the items in your care kit. Each item is included to bring a smile and comfort—I hope this kit does that for you. Here is more about the purpose behind what you'll find:

  • Hopeful Origami:  Decorate your room and use it as a form of prayer and wish-making for hope, love, and peace. Our volunteers folded these pieces, inspired by the Japanese art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures.
  • Lucky Painted Rocks: Carry in your bag or pocket as a good luck charm and encouragement. Learn more about sharing positive messages through painted rocks.
  • Decorated Journal and Pen: Bring to appointments to take notes, keep track of important dates—or just get creative and doodle! Ours are hand-decorated by volunteers to give that extra special touch!
  • Heart Pillow: Use as a protective barrier between seatbelts and any surgical sites or ports near the chest, or just hug me tight when you need love!
  • Care Bear Towel: Unfold me to use as a face/hand towel or carry me as a good luck charm!
  • Tissue Pack: Keep in your bag for on-the-go cleaning, such as wiping hands, faces, or surfaces.
  • Hand Sanitizer: Reduce the risk of infections by killing germs when soap and water aren't readily available.
  • Electrolyte Drink Mix: Use along with our reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and replace essential minerals lost due to treatment side effects. These can help reduce fatigue, support overall energy, and aid recovery, especially when solid food intake is limited. Always consult a healthcare provider before use to ensure safety and appropriateness.
  • Informational Resources: Bring as reading material to the waiting room to stay informed on how you can best advocate for yourself.
  • Face Masks: Protect from infections by reducing exposure to germs, especially when the immune system is weakened by treatment.
  • Toothbrush: Oral hygiene is especially important during treatments—stay on top of brushing, even when things get tough.

Ultimately, comfort knows no age. Whether it’s a crochet animal, a paper crane, or a Care Bear towel, we believe everyone is young at heart. Especially in tough times, these little joys offer warmth and healing to all.

Please enjoy this kit and take good care of yourself. We are rooting for you!

All the best,
Sonia
