Workshop Description: This spring workshop series of monthly art therapy sessions invites participants to practice implementing arts-based strategies for relaxation and reconnection with self. Through exploring different art techniques, including zentangle, mandala, and strengths-based themes, group members will be guided through a relaxing and regulating art process. This arts-based therapy group aims to help participants get out of their heads and into the present moment, using art materials to practice mindfulness and facilitate relaxation, and reconnecting with themselves and others in a creative and healing virtual group atmosphere.

This is a semi-structured art therapy group in which a theme or art technique is offered. A slideshow presentation will be used to provide visual guidance- it is recommended that participants log in from a computer, tablet, or other device that will allow them to see the visual slideshow.

No prior art experience is required for this group—participants are encouraged to work within their own comfort and skill level. Please be mindful that this is an art therapy group, not an art class, and is designed as a supportive group with creative therapeutic processing.

Workshop Materials: Participants may use any art materials of their choosing (drawing materials, painting materials, mixed media, collage) and any surface for art journaling (sketchbook, paper, canvas, altered book, etc.). Recommended materials include:

Materials may be available upon request with AT LEAST two weeks' notice before the group starts. Please email art@kitstoheart.org with the specific materials you would like to receive.

Week-by-Week Overview: Each workshop session will be structured as follows: check-in, setting an intention, artmaking, reflective writing, group discussion, closing breathwork exercise.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to art@kitstoheart.org.
