Volunteer Coordinator Position Description

Kits to Heart is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that distributes thoughtfully designed, curated cancer care kits to hospitals and cancer centers in the Baltimore/Washington Metro Area community, as well as ships directly to patients nationwide. Our mission is to bring smiles and solidarity to those affected by cancer, one kit at a time. Founded in May 2020 in Clarksville, MD by a three-time cancer survivor, Kits to Heart promotes a vision to provide adequate material and psychosocial support for a better treatment process.

We are seeking a bright, energetic individual to join our team as a volunteer coordinator to grow and expand the meaningful work of Kits to Heart. This will be a fantastic opportunity to help your community; learn first-hand what it is like to work for a young and growing nonprofit; and gain experience in nonprofit management and community outreach.

The volunteer coordinator will work closely with the Founder and Executive Director, Sonia Su. The coordinator may start as early as January 2022, with a minimum one-year commitment.

The volunteer coordinator duties will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Maintain timely email correspondence with volunteers and school club chapter leaders
  • Record volunteer donations in Salesforce and reward service hours for students
  • Write and mail thank you postcards to volunteers
  • Assist in community outreach projects, e.g., recruiting club leaders and like-minded organizations
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in communications, volunteer management, development, and/or community outreach
  • Interest and aptitude to work in the nonprofit management field
  • Passionate about helping to improve the quality of life of patients affected by cancer and contribute to our mission
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented and ability to prioritize
  • Ability to multitask and work independently


10 to 15 hours per week; flexible hours and days in a virtual environment (with hybrid option available). Minimum 1 year commitment, with preference to a longer-term commitment. This is an unpaid volunteer position, with possibility for a stipend or hourly after one year of service.
